New Product Release: Radiation Shielding Suit for General Public "Biorubber RSM Spirit"

Yamamoto Corporation, the material innovator, announced the release of a Radiation Shielding Suit for the general public, "Biorubber RSM Spirit," at the Shoko Hall in Osaka Prefecture on October 21, 2011.

Previously available radiation shielding suits weighed on average 15~20kg for the top alone, due to their high content of heavy metals such as tungsten and lead, this made them very impractical for everyday wear and use.

In response to this, Yamamoto has developed "Biorubber RSM Spirit," a radiation shielding suit with a vest-type top and a pair of under protectors for the lower body which together only weigh a total of 0.8kg.

This is a mere 1/20 the weight compared to the conventional products, and thus can be worn comfortably anywhere, anytime.

The suit is ideal for workers who are exposed to radiation on a regular basis, and is capable of reducing radiation exposure to nearly zero during work.

The product will be ready for the market in the beginning of November and the initial sales efforts will focus on Tohoku and Kanto regions.

Regarding the radiation shielding rate, approximately 50% to 90% of radiation can be shielded outside the evacuation area (1 to 30 microsievert per hour).

  • Biorubber RSM Spirit incorporates closed-cell synthetic rubber, which is Yamamoto Corporation's original patented technology using precious metals, utilizing limestone.
  • Aerodome material "BR-ONE," which enhances air ventilation, is used to ensure everyday comfort when worn on a regular basis.
  • Utilizes high density shielding material “BR-TWO” for body parts which are vulnerable to rapid cell breakdown (spine, small intestine and genitals) that require augmented radiation shielding.
